What do you get when you combine 300 drinks, 200 funnel cakes, 100 pumpkins, 2 basketball goals, a DJ with a live drummer, an army of amazing volunteers and one Guatemalan (we love you, Chente!)??? A great night for all ages at Ridgeview; that's what!!! Check out the pics from the Pimp Your Pumpkin II block party, which was held this past Monday night at Ridgevew Manor.

As with most of the projects we engage, success would not have been possible without an incredible team of volunteers. Special thanks to Todd Wilkes, Cheryl Neely, Michelle Nyland, Tim Malcolm, Nina Fiedler, Gene Jennings, Paul Benner, Scott Walker, Chris Peoples, Jay Armstrong, Ron Turner and all the volunteers from the Hale House. Without you, this project would not have been possible.

A team of 10 TNC’ers returned last Saturday night after a week of work at one of our global partner churches – El Camino Bible Church in Escuintla, Guatemala. Under the leadership of Big Mike Fiedler, our Director of Connections, the team worked on the church property Monday through Thursday. We painted the church ceiling, built some walls for their children’s ministry, painted exterior walls, painted and tiled a dental clinic room and made repairs on the church stage. Team members pictured left to right include Big Mike, Lance Collins, David Counsellor, David Czapala, Katie Czapala, Sandy Collins, yours truly – Gene Jennings, Joe McCain, Kathie Bleile, and Steve Darr.
The church families welcomed us with open arms. Each day the ladies of the church cooked us an incredible lunch including homemade tortillas (pictured below).
We stayed in the homes of the church families which in retrospect was perhaps the highlight of the week for us. It’s one thing to go on a mission trip, work hard all day, and go back to a hotel with modern conveniences but it is another thing to go to your host home at the end of the day and do life with them each evening. The accommodations were simple and far from anything we are used to but it was a tremendous blessing to be hosted by such warm, loving Christ-followers.
In addition to construction work, we participated in two worship services, one at El Camino, San Cristobal (a suburb of Guatemala City) and the Wednesday night service at El Camino, Escuintla. On Friday, we walked up to the Pacaya Volcano which is 8372 feet high. It took us about 2 hours to make the steep climb to the top. By the time we got to the top, a rainstorm came along and drenched the whole crew. It only took us about an hour to get down to the bottom again but we were saturated and muddy at the end of our excursion.
I simply don’t have room to tell you all of the details about our trip but be sure to stop one of us and ask about our mission. They will be excited to tell you everything! (And ask them what “Mas Frijoles!” means.) Pray for two more teams that will be in Guatemala soon – one in July and one in August. We are establishing a wonderful partnership with the El Camino churches there and we look forward to see what God is going to do in the future.

People are so valuable to TrueNorth. We care about helping people in their individual journey as they are transformed from spiritual seekers into passionate followers of Christ. That is why we exist. Doing all the cool production stuff is awesome, but it’s meaningless if people are not being reached and transformed. One incredible way we see people further their transformation is through serving. So that brings me to this week’s TNC Hero - David Counsellor.
Like so many people at TrueNorth, David is a behind the scenes guy. He has his hand involved in quite a few things every single weekend. From helping set up the gym on Saturdays to doing setup in the parking lot and hospitality on Sunday AMs, David does so much with such a humble spirit. After its all said and done each Sunday, David’s there to help pack-up and put everything away.
David has been with TrueNorth from the very beginning. Like so many of us, he has seen the power of God come alive in so many lives, and that just fuels his passion and drive to serve our Lord in any way he can.
So hats off to you, David Counsellor, and thank you for giving selflessly of your time and energy to serve our Lord and Savior!
A few weeks ago we had our dunk’d service, which was absolutely amazing! We’ve posted the dunk’d stories on our YouTube page. Check them out!
