It's been a little while since I've thrown up a TNC Hero. Today I actually want to highlight a group of people from our teardown team. The pipe and drape team, headed up by Michael Jordan and Brent Morris, are incredible!
The pipe and drape have allowed us to transform the high school gym to a house of worship every week. And if you have ever looked around, there is a lot of it! So that means setup and teardown is quite a process. Michael, Brent and their team have got it down to a science! The cool thing is that these guys have huge servant hearts. Michael and Brent (and their wives) are there every single week dropping pipe and folding up drapes into the carts.
Thank you guys for helping TrueNorth create an environment that helps us see spiritual seekers transformed into passionate followers of Christ!
One more thing...here are some pictures from our Dunk'd at the River service from a few weeks ago. This is what it's all about!!!!
A great big Happy Father's Day to all of the dads out there. I hope your day was as good as mine! I love being a dad because it's just flat out fun. I've got four rugrats at home, if you didn't know, and I can say there is never a dull moment at the Bradford homestead. But I also love being a dad because I know God has given me a unique opportunity and responsibility to not only provide and protect my kids, but to instill in them my faith and my values. That is such a huge role to play!
Steve provided some timely words to that exact topic yesterday in his message appropriately titled The Game of Life - Father's Day Edition. He spoke straight to the core of father's yesterday in charging them to actively pursue relationships with their children. The most important thing we can do in our relationships with anyone is to affirm their value to us, but this specifically applies to those we love the most. So how do we affirm value? Steve talked about three ways to affirm value: we should give our attention, our affection, and our appreciation.
Giving attention is simply focusing on your loved ones when you're with them. As Steve said, where you are, be there!
Giving affection can sometimes be awkward, particularly for those of us who grew up in homes that weren't affectionate, but it is still extremely important to show to our kids. If you love somebody, show it!
Lastly, giving appreciation is sharing with them what is good about them. Start catching people doing good more you catch them doing wrong. That principle applies to everyone, but especially to parents. Our kids need to hear that they are good. When I was in school, my advertising professor said that for every one negative comment your business receives, you need to have ten positive ones to offset it. Think about that in relation to your loved ones.
We live in a society today where people are running around feeling unloved, unwanted, and undervalued. It's time for the people of God, fathers, mothers - all of us! - to change that by showing people that they are valuable to someone.
I want to close out by asking you to keep a couple of groups of people in your prayers this week. We have a team of ten people, led by Gene Jennings and Mike Fiedler, in Guatemala this week helping build a medical clinic. Also, Walt Tanner is leading a group of students to Go Camp in Columbia, SC. Lots of people from TNC out in the mission field this week. That is so cool!
Have a great week!
This week I want to highlight Jon Hammond as the TNC Hero. Like those I've mentioned before, Jon is a behind the scenes guy that does a tremendous amount for TrueNorth. His servant heart is amazing, always going the extra mile to help others in need.
Jon leads up a team of guys that setup Journeyland and KizStuff every single Sunday morning. I think they get there around 6:00A or something crazy like that! But the joy I see in him and his team is amazing. Jon also sets up and takes down the portable baptistry that we use every few months, which is quite a job.
As I write this, I'm realizing I can never do justice to these people I call TNC Heroes. They are truly amazing.
Hats off to you, Jon, and thank you so much for everything you do to help us transform spiritual seekers into passionate followers of Christ!!!!
Yesterday was such an awesome day at TNC!!!! We wrapped up our Pursuit of Happyness series with a great message on being a peace maker. The energy in both services was electric. What a great time of connecting with the Almighty to God.
The Music: The band rocked it out yesterday right off the bat with We Win! by David Crowder*Band and The Difference by Desperation Band. After that they led us into the presence of God with How Can I Keep From Singing by Chris Tomlin (bound to be a new favorite at TNC) and How Great is Our God by Chris Tomlin. And to close out the service, they celebrated that it's All Because of Jesus (by Steve Fee) that we are alive.
Yesterday was Mother's Day and we decided to find out what TrueNorthers had to say about their mothers. Here's what you had to say TrueNorth...
The Message: Like I said, Steve closed out the series with Mattew 5:9: Happy are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God. He showed us that a peacemaker is not someone who loves or keeps the peace, because they would sacrifice truth and principles to keep peace. No, instead a true peacemaker takes initiative to create peace by confronting conflict. They also will attack the problem and not the person as they confront the issue at hand. And lastly, they keep their mind on the big picture.
To wrap up the series in one phrase, remember that your happiness is not determined by what's happening around you, but rather what's happening inside you.
Don't forget about Facedown this Sunday night at 6:00P! You won't want to miss it! Also, if you have a child in KidzStuff, you are invited to attend the first ever Family Day this Sunday. You can attend a service and then go to KidzStuff to experience what your child experiences every single week at TrueNorth. And lastly, Steve will be revealing some really exciting vision for TNC...it will blow your mind what God is up to!
You do not want to miss this Sunday!!!!
